Earthshaker’s portrait is a bit different than most heroes, in that it’s basically a 3/4 body shot. This presented some interesting challenges, scale being one of them. ES is a big hero, but in the context of the portraits I’ve done so far, he feels kind of small. Contrast with Drow from yesterday; her face is almost the size of his whole body. Not that there’s much that can be done about this. But, it also means that in the context of the reference photo, facial details (eyes, nose, mouth, etc.) are a lot smaller and hard to distinguish. I had a version with only the eye/ear detail (no nose), but it looked weird so the nose was added in.
I really like how the textures worked out with this one. It was a happy accident that his fist wraps ended up kind of bloody looking. I took that and ran with it, applying a second texture overlay to bloody up the totem a little bit, while leaving his body (largely) unscathed.
