Defenders 008: Zeus

“ZUES ULT!!!”

In honour of Movember, I’d like to present the most legendary mo in all of Dota.  In fact, maybe, just for this month, we should rename it Mota.

I played Dota a lot during university, but eventually gave it up.  My friends were all frustrated with how brutal the metagame could be (with leavers, trolls, DCs, etc.), so we just quit cold turkey.  A few years later I started playing HoN, so there’s a bit of a disconnect in my Dota knowledge base.  Like Ancient Apparation, for example.  First time I saw that guy was at the International this summer, and I was all like Whaaaaaaat?

Why am I talking about all this?  Well, in HoN there was an item called Spellshards which was designed to make nuke-heavy heroes actually contribute something in mid-late game.  I wasn’t sure if this was an item that was ported from Dota (it wasn’t), or something the HoN team had come up with on their own (it was), so I actually had to look it up.

Spellshards is core for Thunderbringer, HoN’s equivalent of Zeus, and having played HoN for a while now, it’s a bit hard for me to imagine building him without one.  I don’t really think of myself as a fanboy of either game, but there are certainly a few things I’m going to miss as I transition over from Heroes of Newerth.

Good work, but you really need to stop saying “Invitational”. It’s “International”. I wonder how people get that mixed up? My teacher did it too.

I think bringing over spellshards to Dota 1/2 would definitely have a big impact on the game. Of course dota has a somewhat equivalent to it – veil of discord.

But that 3-9% spell cooldown reduction is so strong. Not to mention it includes item cooldown reduction as well. So I don’t know, it’s all up to IF to say the least.
