Defenders 001: Sven

A huge wave of Dota 2 beta invites went out yesterday, but none found their way to my inbox. This makes me sad.

To take my mind off of it, I decided to whip up some Dota 2 hero portraits.  These are based on the screenshots I took during the International back in August.  I am so in love with Valve’s art style for this game.  Well, for all their games, but Dota 2 is a bit unique in that they’ve had to re-imagine well known and well loved character models, strip out anything that may infringe on Blizzard’s IP (which means no anthropomorphic pandas, I’d wager), but still retain the spirit and identity of the original hero.  No easy task, but I really feel that Valve’s artists have nailed it.

I’ll be posting one of these every day until I finish all 104 (??) heroes, although I suppose I’m limited to the heroes that are currently implemented in the game.

Anyway, here is number one in my series called “Defenders”: Sven, the Rogue Knight.

This is indeed a masterpiece, but (don’t take this as an insult) It’s not as good as your latest ones. If you ever have spare time or you are amazingly bored, or in the mood for redoing Sven, that would be great. I would even go as far as buying a poster. Good work my friend, everything here looks amazing.
