Defenders 027: Tidehunter

December 16, 2011

Man.  This guy is the best.  I love Tidehunter, so thanks to Soldyhurr for the request.

I guess Tide’s biggest selling feature is ‘dat ult.  Gush is great too, but his ult is what he’s known for.  The other week I played the dirtiest game as Tide.  Our team was:

… and someone else.  But I don’t think it mattered.

It was me (Tide) and a friend (Lion) and some randoms up against a premade 5pack.  They all had stupid matching names, and I thought we were done for.  But man, either they were awful, or we were great, or some combination of the two.  The synergy of AoE stuns between Tiny, Lion, and Tide was just insane.  I would blink in, ult, and then we would just absolutely unload on the whole team.  Avalanche, earth spike. Tossing, leaping, starfalling. We just obliterated these guys who had queued together and presumably planned their team.  It was so satisfying.

And, really, it just kind of came out of thin air.  We didn’t really plan our picks, which is why it was so nice to have it work out.

We’ve all got pub horror stories, but tell me about a time that you and some randoms really got it together and played well.

Well, i remember one of my first dota 2 matches, i’d randomed and got Enigma… don’t remember my team very well, but one of them was Venomancer… and ok, the clash between teams… use Black Hole and got the five of them in… then, when my ult finished, Veno use his ult and in that very moment (he was really low hp), a Doom Bringer from the other team ult him… So, long story short. I’d kill one, two, three, DENIED veno, and got the other two kills. RAMPAGE! OMG, AMAZING!

I really like your work dude, and sorry for my english. Greetings from Chile.

P.S: Can you do next Sand King ? I would really appreciate that. Thanks and Good job.

Oh, Tide. I remember when you used to require ‘skill’.

I say that tongue in cheek for when Tidehunter’s original incarnation had an ulti that wasn’t a purely circular AOE ravage, but was instead 8 Impales extending outward from him like the spokes on a bicycle wheel, (with different stun time and dmg, of course).

The ‘skill’ involved was making sure you wouldn’t stomp at the wrong time and miss the enemy hero, while that guy stands rigid between 2 impales wizzing by him like a jaywalker in Toronto’s dt traffic. Not particularly what I’d call a talent, but ~not~ missing would assure you wouldn’t be called a bonehead for the next 5 minutes, and maybe even get some recognition if you hit 2 or 3.

That pressure would give me fits of mild anxiety in the middle of our lancentre games’ team fights, cause I knew that our win or loss could be riding on that failable ulti. And there’s a lot of epeen at stake when pwning the local lanmonkeys, right? Ahhh, the good old days.
