I’ve been meaning to put this guy up for a couple days, but been busy with other stuff.  Stuff that I’ll talk about tomorrow… but let’s Player13 talk for now.

BLAAARGH. I drew the short straw and have to write about AA today. Neither of us wanted to talk about him, but part of my contract is to get called on when the pickings are slim. Thanks (but no thanks >:P ) to thelastduet for suggesting this hero. Please, head on over to r/Dota2 to vote on something more exciting next time.

Ancient Apparition. AA. And much like a battery that’s run out of juice, my first thought when seeing this hero was that Icefrog had run out of ideas.

His spells seemed like a hodgepodge of effects, particularly his slow and his dmg buff. The resulting kit was relatively unique though, and he’s proven himself useful.

But the one thing that bugged me the most was — did we really need another Ice-based hero? I mean, we already had CM, Lich, Drow, and the right half of one Twin-Headed dragon — not to mention Invoker. (Little did I know what was to come… **cough** Tuskarr **cough**)

So, on the topic of elements, I think there’s plenty of room for something other than Ice or Snow to get representation in Dota2, once new heroes start being developed.

Sure, there’s a limited number of magic-type variants in the fantasy world, but Dota has far from exhausted the list. Pokemon has, like, 15 different types. Not all of them are ‘elements’, mind you, but we could use a Steel or Ghost-type hero (Death Prophet’s ulti notwithstanding).

We’ve got enough Fire. We’ve got enough Lightning. And I’d ask for another Water-based if the Dota2 palette wasn’t already drenched with in blue.

What ‘element’ do you think needs better representation in the Dota world? Should we see more Light-based heroes after Ezalor and Io? Or some Air element heroes (like a remake of God of Wind?)

    on the point of element… I would personally like to see more
    of Air or Poison-ish/DOT kinda hero.

    What would be really cool, is to have a caster with all four skills
    be AOE/Single target non-fatal DOTs…

    But that sounds kinda like Venomancer…

    As you said, AA has very unique skills which can be great in supporting or being very offensive in 1v1 burst damage. It’s a shame nobody uses him to his full potential in pubs.

    Well you said we got enough fire, guess what? New “fire-type” hero, Ember Spirit (which I hope gets nerfed down really fast, he has skills equivalent of 3 ultimates, Storm’s, Rooftrellen’s and Yurnero’s)

    There are a lot of undead heroes too, by the way: N’aix, Pudge, Necrolyte, Death Prophet, Dirge, Leoric, etc.
    Not sure if Pudge is undead tho, or N’aix (At least not mentioned in lore section)

    More earth heroes perhaps? There’s only Earthshaker who draws from the powers of the earth for sure, and i can think of only two earth-ish: Tauren Chieftain and Tiny.

    I guess we’ll be seeing Earth Spirit one day, since Storm and Ember are already.

    yeahp totally reminds me of pokemon. lets see… i guess dedicated water and air heroes be neat. shadow and ghost be cool too, if they count

    I’d love to see some more nature based heros that are able to use the terrain to their advantage, sort of like tree’s invisibility.

    I also think machinery could be better represented than just clockwerk/tinker. I’ve always felt that dota was missing a hero that used sound to fight. The closest thing to it is QoP, but her skills seem more demonic than sound based.

    Well, HoN has Rhapsody who is completely based on music/sound. Although there are many things I despise about HoN (as much as I loved playing it), come to think of it, the design team did a pretty awesome job of coming up with a variety of characters.
