Defenders 051: Outworld Destroyer

March 7, 2012

Still a few days left to vote for the next print in the Defenders series.  On Friday, I’ll be taking down the current heroes and putting up new ones.  Check it out:

OD is pretty cool.  Actually, scratch that.  Any INT carry is pretty cool.  To me they just feel… unconventional, and that makes them interesting.

My favourite heroes, in principal but not necessarily to play, have always been ones that are unique.  Sure, lots of heroes use images, but none to the the extent that Phantom Lancer does.  That makes him cool.  Signature abilities, like Pudge’s hook, Mirana’s arrow, or Morphling’s morph, not only make the heroes stand out from one another, but also and new complexity to the game as a whole.

INT carries are sort of like that.  There’s only really… 3, maybe 4 of them in total. And because they rely on INT rather than AGI, they tend to make more interesting use of their spells (as opposed to a right click AGI carry like PA)

What do you think about INT carries?  Are they awesome, or just wizardly wannabes?  Who is your favourite?

Looks good but really different from others. Seems like it has more of a solid colour to it instead of the effect the others had (even riki who is one colour has the effect).
Too bad his bottom half is the only thing brown or you could have added that in here too.

I really love the way Outworld Destroyer is represented in DOTA2. He’s probably one of my favorite looking heroes in the game.

Any chance we could see Witch Doctor anytime soon? He’s also one of my favorites.

Well, INT carries are severely underrated and undeniably awesome. I guess that by “5 of them” you means Silencer, Destroyer, Storm, Nature’s Prophet and Tinker.

Silencer and OD are both quite similar, and both kick some major ass in the late game. They are among the heroes who are often forgotten in pubs and thus they are left alone with enemy creeps, and, in Silencer’s case, with dying enemy heroes. And then, later in the game, when you’re in a “last teamfight and we push”, they suddenly dish out so much damage you don’t even. The two are actually very similar, both relying on INT very hard and dealing pure damage. I find Silencer more useful though, because while OD focuses on lots of damage, this guy screws up team fights.

Storm is, actually, more of a semi-carry, but a damn good one. He’s item-dependant up until you get your Linkens and/or BKB. After that, do what you want, cause a fat guy is free, you are a fat guy. He’s strong on the lane, he’s good in team fights, he’s viable as a carry, he’s painfully hard to gank.

Prophet is a semi-carry as well. He can hardly carry with his right-clicks, even if he has Aghanims, Desolator, Daedalus and other valuable DPS items. His strength, however, comes from other directions. He can carry the game by constantly pushing. I’ve lost count on how many games were lost only because the enemy had a Nature’s Prophet who could immediately push once we’re out of the base. Don’t forget that his ultimate, especially after he gets Scepter, hurts a lot.

Tinker is the most unique of the five. He is THE king of laning, only a couple of heroes outlane him with ease. He has a very strong presence early in the game, and a gank usually ends up with him getting a kill or two. But then, this guy gets BoT and starts playing Prophet. I honestly have no idea how it feels when an enemy Tinker is pushing all of your lanes when you’re somewhere else, spams missiles at you before a teamfight starts, and keeps lasering your carry and doing stuff like that in clashes, because this Tinker is usually me. And other Tinkers either don’t do anything or go for Dagon. So, Tinker is, while easilly countered by team BKB and ganks on sidelanes, my personal favourite INT carry. Because it is so much more satisfying to see your enemy die after recieving so many lasers and missiles while being in chicken form than just right click him to death.

And he can actually stop the enemy NP from doing what he does best.

Thanks for making my favorite hero! Now I have OD, NS, Dazzle and Furion <3 (using the others aswell tho)

Int chars are more my cup of tea, str is fun but agi is just farmfest (other than viper and VS (epic support)).
And having an int carry makes it possible to carry games without farming for the first 30-40 minutes of a game then just attack move into 4-5 and win.
    Thanks again!

I wouldn’t say INT carries are the best carries since they tend to be sort of sguishy, they can be nuked easily. Still they often provide the much needed control STR and AGI carries lack.

I’m not carry kinda guy, although I love playing storm sometimes!(ZAAAPP)

Hey Adam, love your defender designs, especially this one, just wow!!

Any chance of putting these defender designs on tee shirts? This Outworld Destroyer design in the middle of a plain black tee would be simply awesome! I would definitely get one, I’m sure many other people would too.

I really like int heroes, because they just don’t get bored like for example a right-click hero. Don’t get me wrong, my all time fav hero is anti-mage, cuz of his blink and ult uhh and his name somehow :P

My fav int carry has to be silencer if you can call him a carry that is. :) I love how you just harass other in lane with “Curse of the Silent” and when they turn on you drop that global silence, were it’s kind of tricky to get the timing right. And then just put Last Word on the skill-spammer and Glaive your wisdom to them. ^^
